I love the TV series but the novels are too long and filled with the most mundane details. This is the same only worse. Boooooring. Lots of really length conversations that are meaningless. And you're rewarded with the knowledge that he'll never finish book 6 and books 3 through 5 are the same time period from different points of view. Kind of pointless. Stick to the HBO show. The HBO show is 1% George RR Martin and 99% HBO. Martin just can't write very well.

It would be great if the borrowing-time could be extended on long books like this one - never enough time to get through all the CDs before I have to return it!

Not the best read in the world, but not the worst either. The plot development lags. I don't think I would have enjoyed actually reading it, but it was interesting as an audiobook, and the different voices for all the characters are amazing. Roy Dotrice definitely saves it!

I work 3 days a week 12 hour shifts. Just enough time to complete this. Can't wait until Friday to start the next one. Makes your time fly by. To all interested, enjoy.

This is the second block in a series of seven. Author Martin's incredible imagination is matched with his ability to put pen to paper with amazing story lines. When you're able to write this well, you are only in competition with yourself. Therefore, this well written second in the series is not quite as good as the first. Still a worthwhile read and onto, "A Storm of Swords." 8 of 10 stars

The story continues and evolves. So well written and wonderful twists and turns in the story.

Grotesque, vulgar, and a reflection of the human condition under very questionable ethical guidelines. In a world no so different from are own, in that military strength and money determines who has the power more than a position of high office, which is shown to be merely an illusion.
