This was quite different from what I normally read. While his writing style is very visual and poetic, I did have to Google the ending, as I didn't quite understand what it was all about. This book won't be for everyone but it does have…

Murakami’s “Norwegian Wood” is definitely beautifully written and has many hints of (almost) surrealism that make the book bearable to read. However, this has to be one of my least favorite Murakami novels despite its overwhelming…

I read this book to fulfill the popsugar reading challenge 2021 goal read a book with the same title as a song. I liked it very much. I cried during parts of it, but i wouldn't change a thing. Disclaimer, It is an adult book not suitable…

I'm getting tired of reading the misadventures of the ever horny Murakami stand-in. Most of his books have an interesting, if twisted story line. This one just has meaningless sex presented as something mystical. In this one it's just…

I kept waiting for this book to get better. It never did. If you're depressed, don't read this book! Take it off the list of recommendations.

although i've heard many good things about this book, it's quite possibly the worst book i've ever read-- i don't believe i've ever regretted reading something more. the only good parts in this book were the way murakami described the…

It is a very poignant "young man growing up" story and a love story. very well written. Gave it a rating of 4 out of 5.

I could see, smell, taste and feel Murakami's words in this beautiful heartbreaking love story.

Remember that scene in "Silver Linings Playbook" when the Bradley Cooper character reads the last page of a book, slams it shut, yells "What the f**k?" and throws it out the window? Yes, well. Truly one of the worst reading experiences…

Haruki Murakami is a prominent Japanese writer who also enjoys prestige in the English and Chinese literary worlds. I read a Chinese translation of one of his earlier works, Norwegian Woods, after coming back from #Europe . I’ve always…

My absolute favourite Murakami novel. He writes with such poetic but simple language. Very dark and depressing with a musical backdrop that compliments the story well. It takes a piece of you and has no chance of giving it back. This book…

Colors shone with exceptional clarity in the rain. The ground was a deep black, the pine branches a brilliant green, the people wrapped in yellow looking like special spirits that were allowed to wander over the earth on rainy mornings…

A young milquetoast navigates early adulthood, ennui and romantic decisions all with hints of societal uproar in late 1960s Japan. This definitely rings true about early male adulthood. The more Murakami I read, the more he becomes my…

I was deeply moved by this heartfelt story about love and loss set in Japan during the 1960s. As this was my first encounter with a Murakami book, I'm looking forward to reading more Murakami this year.

In his renowned book Norwegian Wood, Haruki Murakami follows the fractured relationship of two college lovers that are faced with a harrowing tragedy and academic pressures. The haunting story uses dialogue and letters to bring readers…

I think I loved everything about this book apart from its setting and title. I could have done without the somewhat distracting 60s Beatlemania stuff, but otherwise a beautiful and heartbreaking tale of young love with superb characters.

This was, I believe, my second read from Murakami and instantly became my favorite of his.

Patti Smith nicely summed up the two styles of Murakami novels. There are the "surreal, intra-dimensional" novels that seem to cause the biggest splash with the English speaking world, like Hardboiled Wonderland, and then there are the…

Not sure what to say about this one. This is my third book by this author and maybe I've just finally hit one that didn't quite affect me the way the other two did. Not to say I didn't like it - I did - but I don't think it clicked with me…

This is my third Murakami book. it pales in comparison to the author's current book, "Colorless Tsura...". This book is just another "love story". I was hoping the author's books would provide me with some insight of Japanese culture. …

Supposedly, this is THE ONE. I didn't find it to be so though. I somehow read almost every other Murakami work to date before finally getting around to this one. It's a nice story, yes (it always is), replete with the obvious marks of this…

A quick and interesting read, but was a much darker book than I had expected. In the end, I felt like I hadn't really learned anything or felt that Murakami had much to say other than to entertain.

I love this book. It brings you back to the stages where different things were important to me. Young love being one of them. This book is a must read.
