"It has great worldbuilding, and it keeps you hooked" - Erin H.

The debut novel of Samantha Shannon, The Bone Season is the first of a series set in dystopian London. Under Scion rule, people with supernatural abilities- Clairvoyants- live together in sections, in fear of getting caught and imprisoned…

The Bone Season is, literally, a revolutionary book. The worldbuilding in this book was extremely well thought out and detailed. The book is intense, action-packed, and touches on some dark topics. The protagonist, Paige, is a headstrong…

I enjoyed this book. It is Samantha Shannon's first novel, so it has the expected choppiness of a first novel, but the story behind it is solid. It's a new-to-me set up (people with clairvoyant skills are "unnaturals" and considered…

So, I really, really, really loved The Priory of the Orange Tree, and figured that I'd give this book a shot, as it's by the same author. I have to say that it's really a step down from that book. I'm not sure if it's because this is the…

A teen romance novel with lots of exposition about how the world works. It was fine but I'm not going to read any of the other books if that's any indication.

I saw this book at a Barnes and Noble Clearance Sale and I decided to give it a go. I loved it! It's a little different from your average "psychic" book, it sets itself in a corrupted society set in the past. The romance bit was a little…

2.5 Stars Well, I don't really know what to say about this book. The plot was really confusing and the characters annoyed me. It was also really slow and boring. Storyline: It is the year 2059 and Paige Mahoney is working in the criminal…

This book seems to presuppose a working knowledge of the fantasy London she is describing; I found it densely plotted, and am sorry to say I did not finish the first chapter.

I wasn't sure what I was expecting and after the first few pages I was thinking of giving up but I am very glad I did not. The Bone Season creates an amazing new world to fall into. Can't wait to get my hands on the sequel .

“The Bone Season,” by Samantha Shannon, is the first novel in a seven book series. Although, the author has just started writing the third, so it might take a while. Paige Mahoney is part of the ‘Criminal Underworld,’ also known as the…

so the bone season was decent enough. very interesting, but personally i thought that it was a bit confusing, even with all the charts and maps at the beginning. i think this can either fall under young adult as well (and it didn't have a…

The authour has created an elaborate future world that is, at first, somewhat confusing. Once I understood the characters and the laws that where in place, it was easier to concentrate on the story. Although SF is not my favourite genre,…

For sure, The Bone Season has a few tropes in it that will anger readers. These tropes have angered me in the past as well and have been the cause of low book ratings. However, it's all about the context. What may work for one book may not…

I wanted to be interested in this book, it sounded like it had this amazing creative world but I just couldn't get into it at all. Oh it has a very unique world I'll give it that much and it is a world I want to learn more about but it did…

What a great series. I am not a fantasy or sci-fi lover, but this pilot novel for the seven-part series blew my socks off. The characters are real and believable and the plot exciting, Samantha Shannon has outdone herself.

I was really enjoying it until the last quarter of the book, which felt a bit rushed. I also felt that some of her character development was a little weak but I do think the author has potential.

Great potential but a dense read, perhaps because she is setting us up for the lengthy purported series. Accomplished first book for such a young author.

An interesting beginning for a planned seven book series (wow!). Taking place in an alternate, fantastical, future where clairvoyants (voyants) are numerous and hunted - an eighteen year old girl (a member of a local voyant gang at that)…

Earth's history has taken a vastly different course, it is full of ghosts, clairvoyants, and a race of beings, the Rephaim, that have dictated the course of events from the shadows. Paige is one of the clairvoyants, an unnatural, and…

Read this book! As more people get their hands on this, and have a chance to review it, you should see a bunch more 5 star ratings. Samantha does a very credible job in creating a new world, one where "gifted" people are hunted, jailed,…

If you liked Harry Potter, then this is the book for you! first time author Samantha Shannon has created a magical version of Oxford (where she herself studied) in the first of what is projected to be a seven-book series.
